Back to school!!!!!!!!!
Although I am sad to see the summer over (separate post), I am so happy we are back to routines! Both kids started school on the same day and it was a great day!
Aidan– 2nd grade. Seriously. Where does time go? After an awesome 1st grade year, I was hoping there wouldn’t be a huge let down on the first day. Not possible. He’s just too excited about school and learning. I found out last night when I looked in his backpack that he brought his Abe Lincoln book and his president book. We got to school early. Much less chaos since it was not down pouring like last year! We walked through the school to the school yard and several people welcomed Aidan back to school by name. It made his day. He was so happy to be back. He dismissed us pretty quick once he saw the teacher’s list of who would be in his class. His best friend is in his class again (and said friend has an older sister who loved this teacher last year!) and some of the “glasses group” has reunited. This was something his teacher suggested since they work so well together. Yay! He came home excited about swimming on Tuesdays (how cool to have a pool in your school!) and having computer and art.
BUT…one thing was “a bummer”- no math specialist. I knew of this last spring, but didn’t have the heart to tell him. And of course he was the kid to ask. I think he will be fine.
Brendan– Last year at Walnut Park. Technically a kindergartener though it is not named kindergarten at Walnut Park. He is a “senior.” It was a one hour drop in to say hi to the teachers and drop off rest mats, slippers and “in case” clothes. He wanted to stay the whole hour. He was happy to be back and seeing lots of old friends. He was even happier to be showing the new kids the hermit crabs. He was holding them and telling them all the rules. So funny to see since his last two years he would not touch them at all! He has a half day today and gets into full days next week. Wednesday the new kids start and he will take on his leadership role. it will be cool to see since it is one of the few chances he will have to be the “bigger kid,” role model and teacher to younger kids. The beauty of a multi-age classroom with the same teachers.
Today he brings his lunchbox- it’s a big deal since he picked it out himself- it’s PINK!
Great start to another great school year. I can’t wait to see how much they grow and learn this year!
Toasting the start of a great year!
